Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by heating a large skillet over low to medium heat for about 2 minutes.
  2. Spread a generous layer of butter or margarine on one side of two slices of bread, then place them buttered side down into the skillet.
  3. Layer a slice of American cheese on each piece of bread in the skillet.
  4. Evenly distribute slices of Roma tomato, chopped onion, and jalapeño pepper on top of the cheese.
  5. Butter one side of the remaining two slices of bread and place them buttered side up over the sandwich.
  6. Cook the sandwich for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the opposite side is golden and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove the sandwich from the skillet, let it rest for a minute, then slice and serve warm.
