Preparation Steps
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine fresh blackberries, granulated sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Stir gently and bring to a gentle simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually stir in buttermilk to form a soft dough.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough on top of the simmering blackberry sauce. Cover the saucepan and reduce heat to low, cooking undisturbed for about 15 minutes.
  4. Spoon the warm blackberry sauce into bowls and place the dumplings on top. Garnish with cinnamon or whipped cream if desired.
