Preparation Steps
- In a large pot, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Stir frequently until the butter is completely liquid and bubbling gently.
- Once the butter is melted, add 4 cups of mini marshmallows to the pot. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Remove the pot from heat and immediately fold in 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Gently mix until evenly coated.
- Prepare a greased 9x13 inch pan by lining it with parchment paper. Press the rice mixture into the pan, spreading it evenly.
- Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, allowing the mixture to set firmly.
- Once chilled, lift the set mixture out of the pan using the parchment paper and slice it into squares or rectangles.
- In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt red, white, and blue candy melts according to package instructions.
- Using a piping bag or a fork, drizzle the melted candies over each Rice Krispie treat square and sprinkle with festive sprinkles.
- Allow the decorated treats to set at room temperature for 15-30 minutes until the candy coating hardens.
