Preparation
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook until beef is browned and onions are translucent, about 7-10 minutes.
- Drain any excess fat, then sprinkle in taco seasoning and a splash of water. Stir to combine and let simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Spread a layer of refried beans across the bottom of the dish, followed by a layer of flour tortillas, half of the beef mixture, a generous amount of both cheeses, and some salsa. Repeat these layers.
- Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let it rest for about 10 minutes, then serve hot topped with cilantro, avocado, green onions, and sour cream.
