Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Cut stale bread into 1-inch cubes or slices.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine dairy-free milk, brown sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and black salt. Whisk well and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Grease an 11x6 inch casserole dish. Scatter or press bread evenly in the dish, then pour custard mixture over the top.
- Let the casserole soak for at least 30 minutes. For optimal flavor, refrigerate overnight.
- Prepare the optional topping by mixing flour, chopped nuts, vegan butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- After soaking, sprinkle the topping over the casserole and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
